Sony Pictures Entertainment is releasing Underworld: Awakening the fourth film in the popular Underworld film franchise will be the first to be released in 3D and IMAX 3D when it opens 20 January, 2012.

Underworld: Awakening, Directed by Måns Mårlind and Björn Stein, is a stunning new chapter in the war between vampires, lycans and now, humans who have become aware of that these preternatural beings exist among them, Selene (Kate Beckinsale) escapes imprisonment only to find herself in the midst of an all-out battle to eradicate immortals from the world.
Moviegoers will enjoy an immersive experience with unparalleled image and sound quality when viewing Underworld Awakening: An IMAX 3D Experience at any of the approximately 255 IMAX digital theaters in North America or more than 50 IMAX theaters around the world, as part of the Underworld: Awakening wide theatrical release in North America on Friday, 20 January. Underworld: Awakening has been digitally remastered through proprietary IMAX DMR technology to provide crystal clear images, and laser-aligned sound which, combined with theater geometry that maximizes field of view creates the world’s most immersive movie experience.
Underworld: Awakening is produced by Tom Rosenberg, Gary Lucchesi, Len Wiseman, and Richard Wright. Based on characters created by Kevin Grevioux and Len Wiseman & Danny McBride. Story by Len Wiseman & John Hlavin. The screenplay was written by Len Wiseman & Hlavin and J. Michael Straczynski and Allison Burnett. This film is rated R for strong violence and gore as well as some use of adult language.
